ASUU FUTA Gives Scholarships to Indigent Students
The Academic Staff Union FUTA chapter has offered scholarships to exceptional but Indigent students to aid them in their academic pursuit.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has taken a commendable step by awarding scholarships to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance. This initiative aims to celebrate diligence and hard work among students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational pursuits.

During the award presentation on Friday, February 16, 2024, Professor Pius Mogaji, the Chairman of ASUU FUTA Chapter, provided context for the scholarship. He explained that ASUU’s national body designates November 12 each year to honor heroes in the fight for academic emancipation in Nigeria. As part of this commemoration, scholarships were extended to brilliant students nationwide. Although initially limited to two FUTA students, ASUU FUTA Chapter decided to broaden the scope, ultimately selecting six deserving FUTA students for the award.
Professor Mogaji emphasized that ASUU’s commitment extends beyond teaching and research—it also includes community service. By advocating for grants rather than loans, the union aims to ensure that all Nigerian students have access to quality tertiary education. Their dedication to educational development remains unwavering.
Ms. Victoria Akinpelu, speaking on behalf of other recipients, expressed gratitude for the union’s generous gesture. She assured that the scholarship funds would be used judiciously to suppo
rt their educational journeys.
