Augustine University has convened a high-level strategic planning summit aimed at repositioning the institution for long-term growth, competitiveness, and relevance within Nigeria’s evolving higher education sector.

The summit, held on April 29, 2026, at the university’s Convocation Hall, brought together members of management, deans, directors, heads of departments, unit heads, and student representatives to deliberate on the institution’s future direction and development priorities.
The event featured Prof. Chris Ogbechie, former Dean and Professor of Strategic Planning at Lagos Business School, who served as guest consultant for the summit. Prof. Ogbechie is also a member of the university’s Governing Council.
Discussions at the summit focused on building a strategic roadmap capable of strengthening the institution’s academic competitiveness and institutional sustainability amid changing global trends in education.
In his presentation, Prof. Ogbechie highlighted major shifts influencing student preferences and the broader knowledge economy, stressing the growing importance of curriculum relevance, flexible learning systems, affordability, accessibility, personalised education, and digital learning platforms.
He urged higher institutions to proactively adapt to technological and socio-economic changes shaping the future of education globally.

Speaking during the event, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Alaba Akinwale, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and faith-based education.
According to him, the summit represents a critical step toward repositioning the university for greater institutional impact and long-term sustainability.
Registrar of the university, Mrs. Margaret Aziba, also provided insights into the institution’s history and developmental journey since its establishment in 2015.
She highlighted the university’s founding vision and mission while outlining major growth phases and achievements recorded over the years in its pursuit of quality faith-based education.
A major feature of the summit was a series of breakout sessions where participants reviewed the institution’s vision, mission, and core values while also conducting a SWOT analysis to assess its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Stakeholders further examined strategic priorities, institutional competencies, stakeholder expectations, competitive positioning, and projected outcomes expected from faculties and departments by the year 2032.

The summit reflects a growing trend among Nigerian universities to adopt long-term strategic planning frameworks in response to changing educational demands, technological disruption, and increasing competition within the higher education landscape.
