Bayelsa Teachers Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Minimum Wage and Promotion Arrears

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has issued a warning of a potential indefinite strike affecting public primary and secondary schools in Bayelsa. The primary reasons behind this action are the outstanding N30,000 minimum wage and unresolved promotion arrears.

Following an executive meeting held on October 12, the NUT decided to escalate their protest after a previous three-day warning strike failed to elicit the desired response from the Bayelsa Government.Teachers in the state had previously given the government and local councils a 14-day ultimatum to address their grievances, including the failure to implement the N30,000 minimum wage and address the promotion of primary school teachers in the state.
