The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has firmly denied allegations regarding its confirmation of Prof. Bernard Odoh’s professorship, following claims made in a newspaper report.

The news publication had alleged that FUGUS officially confirmed Prof. Odoh’s promotion to the rank of Full Professor of Geological Sciences on October 1, 2015. According to the report, this promotion was approved after an evaluation by three external assessors and documented in a letter dated November 2015, signed by Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, then Registrar and Secretary to the Council.

In a rejoinder dated November 21, 2024, signed by Yakubu A. Anyibassa, the current Registrar, FUGUS dismissed the claims as baseless and illegal. The institution categorically stated that Prof. Odoh has never been employed as a staff member nor promoted to the rank of Professor by FUGUS. The University attributed the claims to misinformation intended to mislead the public.

FUGUS expressed its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability while dissociating itself from controversies surrounding Prof. Odoh’s academic credentials and recent appointment as Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK). The University urged the public to disregard any narratives associating it with Prof. Odoh’s career advancements.
