Bayero University Students React to NELFUND Upkeep Disbursement Clarification
Students of Bayero University, Kano, have expressed dissatisfaction and sought further accountability regarding the conclusion of monthly upkeep disbursements for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The controversy arises from claims that some beneficiaries only received 11 out of the expected 12 monthly upkeep payments.
Some students have raised concerns about the disbursement process, citing a breach of contract. Aliyu Ibrahim Ibrahim, a student, asserted that the agreement clearly states a 12-month stipulated payment, and the failure to pay the remaining month constitutes a breach. He emphasized that a contract not honored by one party should not be enforced on the other.
According to an update from the BUKAU Media Team, who contacted NELFUND directly, the agency confirmed that upkeep disbursement is strictly tied to academic sessions, not a flat 12-month system. Therefore, the payments for the 2023/2024 session have officially ended, and new disbursements for the ongoing 2024/2025 session are expected to commence in August, contingent on reapplication by students.
Students have taken to social media to express their reactions, ranging from frustration to sarcasm. Some students, like Rotimi Abidakun, expressed emotional distress, while others, like George Eje and Ibraheem Daurawa, responded with humor and clarification.
The situation highlights the need for clear communication and transparency regarding the NELFUND upkeep disbursement process. Students are advised to reapply for the new session and await further updates on the disbursement schedule.
