NELFUND Clarifies Upkeep Payments for Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has provided clarification on the disbursement of monthly upkeep payments to students. According to the NELFUND Executive Director, the payments are made per academic session, not per calendar year.

The clarification indicates that the disbursement of monthly upkeep for the 2023/2024 academic session has officially ended. A new round of disbursements is expected to begin in August 2025 for the 2024/2025 academic session. Students will be required to reapply as part of the new session's procedure.

Some students had expressed concerns about not receiving their expected payments, with some claiming they were owed one or two months of upkeep. However, NELFUND has confirmed that the process is strictly session-based, and payments cease once a session concludes.

Students are advised to remain calm and patient, as further details regarding the new session's disbursement process will be communicated by both the Students' Union Government of Bayero University, Kano (SUG-BUK) and NELFUND in due time.

The clarification aims to provide transparency and clarity on the upkeep payment process, ensuring that students are aware of the payment schedule and procedures.
