The Management of Benue State University (BSU) has raised an alarm over the activities of fraudulent individuals operating fake social media accounts under the name of the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu. The impostors have created fraudulent profiles on platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, LinkedIn, and TikTok, using various profile pictures and phone numbers to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals. These fraudulent accounts are reportedly offering fake Federal Ministry of Education contracts as bait to lure their victims.
In a disclaimer, the university categorically disowns and disassociates itself from these fraudulent accounts, strongly condemning the activities of the perpetrators. The university assured the public that Professor Iorapuu has no association with these accounts or the activities promoted through them.
To tackle this issue, the university has taken decisive action, alerting relevant security agencies and telecommunications operators to help track and apprehend those responsible. The university emphasized that the law will be fully enforced against anyone found guilty of such fraudulent acts.
BSU urges the public to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
