BUK Inducts 87 Newly Qualified Doctors, 16 Dentists

Bayero University, Kano, has inducted 87 newly qualified Medical Doctors and 16 Dentists from the Faculties of Clinical Sciences and Dentistry of the College of Health Sciences (CHS).

The induction ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Mahmud Tukur Theatre, Old Campus, marked the 23rd induction for MBBS and 9th Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in the University.

During the ceremony, the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari, administered the oath of allegiance to the inductees, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations governing the professions. She urged the new doctors to respect their senior colleagues and treat their patients with utmost respect and confidence.

Dr. Kyari congratulated the new doctors on their induction and announced that the MDCN has introduced a portal for housemanship selection, allowing them to choose from 113 available hospitals across the federation, including private and state-owned hospitals.

The Chairman of the occasion, the Acting Chief Medical Director, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Professor Auwalu Umar Gajida, congratulated the new doctors and emphasized the importance of upholding the ethics of the profession. He noted that the AKTH is committed to improving facilities for training doctors and looks forward to receiving the new doctors during their internship.

Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, the Medical Elder, delivered a speech on Medical Education, advising the new doctors to continue their studies, attend conferences, seek mentorship, and treat their patients with respect and humility. He also encouraged them to start their work early and have a passion for their profession.

The induction ceremony marked an important milestone in the careers of the newly qualified doctors and dentists, and they are now ready to embark on their housemanship program and start their journey as medical professionals.
