BUK Warns Against Frequent Theft on Campus, Plans to Prosecute Offenders

Worried by the frequent theft of property and
office equipment in the University's
environment and staff quarters, Bayero
University has issued a strong warning to the perpetrators of this heinous crime. If arrested, such perpetrators would be prosecuted.


The Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas,summoned an emergency security meeting with the Principal Officers and the Director of Security on Sunday,th 18 September, 2022 to discuss and deliberate on the new strategies to curb this incessant menace that has been bothering the University.


He explained that it was quite disheartening to see university property being frequently stolen by some unscrupulous elements.

He warned that if such people are
arrested, they would not only be prosecuted, but their names would be published in the media to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Vice Chancellor frowned at the recent theft of the armory cable at K. Dada Sub-station; the cables were stolen on six occasions.

That was in addition to frequent
stealing in the offices and the staff quarters. He attributed the theft to complicity, encroachment into the University by unknown persons and compromise by some unscrupulous staff and children of the staff.

The meeting exhaustively discussed and resolved that the University would intensify its surveillance in all strategic
locations and beef up security in order to address this problem.

The meeting tasked the Director of Security and his team to
re-strategize in their duties and work towards protecting
University property. The University warned the security
personnel against negligence, noting that staff found
guilty would not be spared.
It further charged the security personnel to be more professional in handling their duties and called on all the staff and other members of the University to be vigilant and help the University in identifying those criminal elements by promptly informing the security personnel.

The Vice Chancellor later prayed that with the recent measures taken, the University would witness a drastic reduction in the theft of property.
In a related development, the University Management has vowed to revoke the contractual agreement of any of the Security outfit whose personnel was found compromising in its undertakings and/or got any of the university property under their care missing.
