Abuja Tragedy: NYSC Member Allegedly Stabs Father to Death After Family Dispute
A shocking family tragedy has reportedly unfolded in the Guzape area of Abuja, where a 53-year-old businessman, Mr. Adimike Godwin, was allegedly killed by his son following a heated argument at their residence on Friday night.
According to sources within the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria (EDAN), the deceased was a respected businessman known for his success in electrical imports and real estate investments. Godwin reportedly owned properties in Lekki, Lagos, as well as Guzape and Maitama in Abuja, frequently traveling between both cities to oversee his businesses.
An executive member of EDAN disclosed that the disturbing news spread among members of the association after reports emerged that the businessman had been stabbed multiple times during a confrontation with his son, who is currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The source explained that Mr. Godwin had traveled to Abuja to visit his first son, who not only serves in the city but also manages some of his father’s real estate properties.
According to the account, the incident occurred after the son returned home from a club. A disagreement allegedly broke out over financial matters, with the young man reportedly accusing his father of being unfair with money and comparing him to other wealthy parents who buy expensive cars for their children.
The situation reportedly escalated during an argument concerning the management of business funds, leading to the fatal confrontation.
“We received news that one of our members was involved in a tragic incident,” the EDAN source said. “He was a major importer, a top dealer in the market, and also involved in real estate.”
The source further alleged that the suspect had issues with drug use and that the confrontation turned violent, resulting in the businessman being stabbed several times.
The suspect has since been taken into police custody in Abuja, while the deceased’s wife has also reportedly been invited for questioning as investigations continue.
Following the incident, members of the Electrical Dealers Association reportedly secured the deceased’s shops and warehouses to prevent theft or unauthorized movement of goods.
“As a union, our immediate action was to secure all his business locations. That is our standard procedure whenever a tragedy happens to one of our members,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the incident.
Speaking on the matter, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that officers responded after concerned individuals raised alarm over being unable to reach the deceased.
“On arrival, the police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood. He was later confirmed dead by doctors at Karu General Hospital,” she said.
Adeh added that five suspects, including a relative of the deceased, are currently in custody as part of an ongoing investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.
The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and provide any useful information that may assist with the investigation.
The tragic incident has sparked conversations on social media about family conflicts, financial pressure, substance abuse, and the importance of conflict resolution within families.
