Cadet Breaks Record as First Nigerian Female Cadet to Graduate from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

Princess Oluchukwu Owowo, the first Nigerian female cadet to be trained at the Royal Military Academy (RMA) Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, graduated in a vibrant Sovereign Parade on April 12, 2024.

Previously a member of the 70 Regular Course, Owowo continued her training at RMA and graduated as a second lieutenant alongside 24 other international cadets. Her exemplary performance during her training earned her honors and recognition. This achievement marks a significant milestone in promoting gender equality and diversity within the Nigerian Armed Forces, demonstrating the capabilities and potential of female cadets in the defense sector.

Second Lieutenant Owowo, prior to her RMA training, achieved a significant academic milestone by earning a first-class Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from NDA.

The historic passing-out parade was witnessed by notable attendees including NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai and Academy Registrar Brigadier General AM Tukur, along with several Nigerians residing in the UK.

The RMA, established in Sandhurst since 1812, has a long history of training officers for the British Army and allied countries. It merged with the Royal Military College (RMC) in 1947 to form the current establishment. Since its inception, over 5,500 cadets from 132 countries have trained at RMA, strengthening ties between the British Army and its international allies.
