Chancellor Says ABU’s 42nd Convocation a Huge Success

The Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, CFR, Obi of Onitsha (Agbogidi), has described as “very successful” the institution’s 42nd/Diamond Jubilee Convocation held last Saturday.
Speaking when he called on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in Kano, the Chancellor explained that a total of 35,758 graduands were conferred with first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and higher degrees during the academic activity.
The Chancellor further said that three distinguished Nigerians were conferred with honorary doctorate degrees for their meritorious services to humanity.
He stressed that Ahmadu Bello University would continue to be respected for strictly adhering to its traditions, for which the royal father said he was always proud to be its Chancellor.
The Chancellor told the Emir of Kano that he was in Kano Emir’s Palace about 20 years ago to seek advice of his father, the then Emir Ado Bayero, and he was in the Palace again to condole with the people of Kano over Bayero’s demise.
“I am here again for the third time to wish you well. I always feel Kano as a home. Times are different; challenges are also different; but our traditions must be kept,” he said.
In his response, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, thanked the Chancellor and ABU management for the visit, saying Kano and Onitsha were the same.
Aminu Bayero described the Chancellor as a great personality who had tremendously impacted on the society even before he ascended the throne as Obi of Onitsha.
The Emir further said that His Majesty Nnaemeka Achebe was eminently qualified to be the Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, given his wealth of experience in various spheres of life.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim who along with other management staff of the University accompanied the Chancellor to the Palace, thanked the Emir for instituting a cash prize for the best graduating student in Computer Engineering.
