Chinese Vice Minister of Education Visits Luban Workshop at UNIABUJA Faculty of Engineering
Mr. Wu Yan, the Vice Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China, visited the Luban Workshop at the University of Abuja's Faculty of Engineering, highlighting the ongoing collaboration with Chinese institutions to advance railway engineering education in Nigeria.
Mr. Wu Yan, the Vice Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China, recently visited the Luban Workshop at the University of Abuja's Faculty of Engineering. The visit marks a continuation of the collaboration between the University of Abuja (UofA) and two prestigious Chinese institutions: Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Science and Tianjin Railway Technical and Vocational College.
The Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Wu Yan, was warmly received by Professor Philip Afaha, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Abuja, on Tuesday. This partnership supports the university’s Railway Engineering program, launched last academic session, and is designed to provide advanced professional training in railway-related specialties.
UofA is one of only ten universities across Africa selected by the Chinese government for the establishment of Luban Workshops. These workshops aim to equip local students with high-level technical skills, particularly in rail infrastructure and engineering, meeting Nigeria’s growing demand for skilled personnel in the rail industry.
"Currently, our Electrical Electronics and Railway Engineering departments are among the best-equipped in the country," stated Professor Afaha, emphasizing the university’s commitment to providing world-class training. The Luban Workshop at UofA stands as a testament to Nigeria-China educational collaboration and serves as a model for other institutions focused on building capacity in technical fields.
The University of Abuja remains committed to its role in producing highly trained technical personnel to support Nigeria's infrastructural development, particularly within the railway sector.
