COOU College of Medicine Appreciates VC Prof. Kate Omenugha, Seeks Support on Key Issues

The meeting aimed to express appreciation for her continuous support and to discuss pressing issues affecting the College.
The meeting saw the presence of three Deputy Vice Chancellors—Prof. Anselm Nweke (Administration & Environmental Sustainability), Prof. Obiora Ejiofor (Academics), and Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo (Uli Campus & Development Affairs)—as well as the Ag. Bursar, Dr. Nath Udezo. The College of Medicine delegation was led by Provost Prof. Lawrence Ikeako, alongside Deans and Heads of Departments.
Key Issues Raised:
- College Infrastructure: Prof. Ikeako highlighted challenges with students’ logbooks, library resources, and inadequate classroom space, appealing for VC intervention.
- Academic Integrity: HOD Anatomy, Dr. Stanley Elemuo, raised concerns about students allegedly forging Remita payment receipts to deceive examiners, urging decisive action.
- Staff Welfare: Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu of the Department of Surgery requested improved staff support structures.
VC’s Response:
Prof. Omenugha commended the dedication and professionalism of the College staff and described Prof. Ikeako as “the most supportive, most active, and most swagger Provost.” She assured that:
- Logbooks, classrooms, and manuals will be adequately addressed.
- Firm disciplinary action will be taken against students involved in forging Remita payments, emphasizing that illegality will not be tolerated.
- Staff welfare remains a priority, with continued support expected from Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The VC also highlighted the Safe Campus Initiative, which has stabilized electricity supply across campuses through securing and installing 16 transformers.
Student Appreciation:
The President of COOUMSA, Comrd. Valerian Okoye, praised the VC’s transformational leadership and campus hostel rehabilitations, pledging student loyalty and cooperation.
The meeting concluded on a celebratory note with birthday songs for Prof. Omenugha (recently turned 61 on 30th January) and a group photograph, following a vote of thanks by Dr. Chinyerem Nwachukwu.

The visit reinforced the strong partnership between COOU management, staff, and students, while reaffirming the VC’s commitment to academic excellence, staff welfare, and campus development.
