A Yola Chief Magistrate Court ordered Musa Chiroma, Acting Registrar of the College for Legal Studies, Yola, to pay N1 million in damages to Mrs. Fadimatu Musa, a female lecturer he assaulted. Chiroma also paid N80,000 for prosecution costs, issued a written apology, and pledged not to victimize the lecturer again.
A Yola Chief Magistrate Court has ordered Musa Chiroma, the Acting Registrar of the College for Legal Studies, Yola, to pay N1 million in damages to Mrs. Fadimatu Musa, a married female lecturer, for slapping her.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi, also required Chiroma to pay an additional N80,000 to cover the cost of prosecution. The acting registrar was further directed to submit a written apology and sign an undertaking to avoid any future victimization or assault of the complainant.
Chiroma was arraigned on May 13, 2024, facing charges of assault, criminal force to deter a public servant from their lawful duties, and voluntarily causing hurt—offenses that violate Sections 244 and 219 of the Penal Law 2018.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, when Chiroma reportedly slapped Mrs. Fadimatu, who serves as Assistant Chief Lecturer and Chairman of the Task Force Committee for the Enforcement of Payment of School Fees. The altercation arose when Mrs. Fadimatu prevented a student from writing an exam due to unpaid fees, which led to Chiroma’s violent response.
Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen represented the prosecution, while the defense was led by S. N. Agaecheta. The Head of the Public Sector Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum, Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji, was also present to ensure justice.
Following Chiroma’s compliance with the court’s directives, the case was struck out, and he was formally discharged.
