DELSU Launches Free and Compulsory Medical Screening for Staff

The initiative, fully sponsored by the university, is aimed at safeguarding the health of staff by detecting medical conditions early and providing appropriate care.

The screening exercise, which began on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the University Health Centre, Site II, Abraka, is expected to continue until Monday, September 22, 2025. According to the Director of University Health Services, Dr. Bobola Agbonle, the programme targets both hidden and visible health issues among staff. She revealed that cases of hypertension, diabetes, prostate complications, eye defects, cervical conditions, and other health challenges have already been uncovered since the commencement of the exercise. Dr. Agbonle emphasized that the initiative is not limited to diagnosis but also extends to follow-up care and management for those in need.

Announcing the programme, Dr. Ese Umukoro, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations, praised the Vice Chancellor for his proactive vision. He said the compulsory and fully-funded nature of the screening underscores Professor Asagba’s commitment to ensuring a healthier and more productive university workforce.
