The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has commended the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), for its steady growth and remarkable transformation within a short period of its establishment.
Speaking on Friday, September 19, 2025, during the aptitude test organized by the Monday Onyeme Foundation for its annual scholarship scheme, the Deputy Governor said the institution was rapidly becoming one of the fastest-growing universities in the state.

“Each time I visit UNIDEL, I see something new. The pace of growth here is commendable. This university may be young, but it is advancing quickly, and I must applaud the management for their dedication and achievements,” Onyeme said.
The Deputy Governor personally supervised the exercise, administered some of the questions, and announced the results at the end of the test. He revealed that 82 students from Ika North East and 68 students from Ika South emerged successful in the aptitude test.
He further disclosed that each successful candidate would receive ₦200,000, while two top scorers would get an additional ₦200,000 each. Four other candidates with the second-highest scores would be awarded an extra ₦100,000 each.
The examination, held at the University’s 1000-Capacity Hall, attracted undergraduate participants from the Ika Federal Constituency. Onyeme explained that the scholarship scheme, which began in 2016, was designed to inspire students to take their studies seriously and embrace a culture of healthy competition.
“We insist on conducting aptitude tests to instill competitiveness. That is how many of us were trained — to put in our best and take pride in success. It gives students a sense of fulfillment and prepares them for future challenges,” he said.
The Registrar of UNIDEL, Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, and the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Vera Okonoko, were also present to monitor the conduct of the exercise.
