Deputy Senate President EmphasizesTertairy Institutions Research Role in Addressing National Challenges

He expressed concern about the limited focus on research within universities and urged these institutions to contribute significantly to the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria.

Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, highlighted the vital role of research conducted by universities and tertiary institutions in addressing the challenges facing Nigeria. During a meeting with the management of Nasarawa State University, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, Senator Barau underscored the importance of research to tackle current national issues.
Senator Barau emphasized that universities play a crucial role in not only training young individuals but also conducting research to address prevailing challenges in the country. He expressed concern about the limited focus on research within universities and urged these institutions to contribute significantly to the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria.

He stated, “Aside from training our young men and women, the universities and other institutions should embark on research to address our challenges. It’s one of the fundamentals of a viable country. Research work is lacking in our universities, and it is one of the fundamentals of resolving the challenges in our institutions."
Senator Barau commended the efforts of Nasarawa State University in establishing the Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies. This institute is tasked with conducting research on democracy, introducing innovations to strengthen the democratic system in Nigeria.
Assuring the university of his full support and collaboration, Senator Barau emphasized the need for universities to prioritize research initiatives to contribute meaningfully to national development.
