Dr. Hillary Ibelegbulem Commissions UNIDEL Law Clinic
The Private Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr. Hillary lbegbulem on Tuesday, 2nd December, 2025, commissioned the Law Clinic at Owa Oyibu campus.
Performing the exercise, Dr lbegbulem recalled that on June 13, 2025 during the Law Dinner Ceremony, he pledged to build a clinic for the Law students as one way of contributing towards the growth of the Faculty.
While charging the students to remain focused and diligent, he commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Cecil Okunbor for providing space for the project.
Dr. Ibegbulem who is a law student at Base University, Abuja, also unveiled the Lady Justitia statute , a striking embodiment of justice, fairness and moral strength, to the admiration of the Dean, staff and students of the Faculty.
The exercise was witnessed by the Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor who was represented by the Inne of Owa Kingdom, Chief Chucks Okwuokenye.
Earlier, the Hillary lbegbulem Foundation in collaboration with the Centre for Justice Education and Development (CJED) completed the two day training on Clinical Legal Education and Establishment of the University of Delta Law Clinic.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Okubor in his address, said Dr. Ibegbulem's donation of the Law Clinic facility and the symbolic emblem of justice to the faculty was more than an act of philanthropy, but also an investment in the future of the students, the Institution and the community. He posited that the contributions would serve as a beacon of hope, excellence, and service for generations to come.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke whose address was delivered by Dr. Emeka Chigwe underscored the importance of the two days training which represented a significant milestone in strengthening practical legal education, enhancing justice delivery and equipping law students with real world advocacy skills.
She thanked Dr. Hillary lbegbulem whose unwavering dedication to justice, education and community development had continued to make meaningful impact across many spheres.
Topics discussed at the plenary sessions were: Setting the Law Clinic: Vision, Objectives and Nigerian Context; Professional Ethics and Client Confidentiality in a Clinic Setting; and Building an Innovative Clinical Content for Enabling Nigerian Law Graduates to become Practice Ready.
