Dr. Usman Abbas, Director of Procurement and Head of the Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management at Kaduna State University (KASU), has been conferred with the Outstanding Contribution to Public Procurement award at the 7th Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Summit & Awards 2025, held on Friday, 4th July 2025 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.
The summit, themed “Driven Impact through Innovation: The Future of Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain in Africa,” brought together leading voices from across the continent, including policymakers, academics, and industry professionals.
Dr. Abbas received the award in recognition of his visionary leadership in championing ethical procurement practices, driving digital transformation, and promoting sustainable supply chain systems within Nigeria’s public sector. Under his leadership, KASU has recorded significant progress in procurement transparency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Abbas dedicated the award to his team and the Kaduna State University community.
“This award is a testament to the collaborative spirit and steady commitment to excellence at KASU. We remain focused on promoting innovation, integrity, and capacity-building to redefine procurement practices in Africa,” he stated.
The Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Summit & Awards is a continental platform that recognizes trailblazers and innovations in procurement and logistics. This year’s event featured sessions on emerging technologies, green procurement, and strategies for building resilient supply chains across Africa.
Beyond his administrative role, Dr. Abbas is a leading academic and policy advisor whose work bridges the gap between research and practice. His contributions have significantly shaped procurement education and public procurement reforms, positioning KASU’s Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, under the Faculty of Management Sciences, as a hub for professional excellence.
