A delegation from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa, in partnership with the British Council, has embarked on a mission to collaborate with Covenant University. The focus of their visit is to explore avenues for addressing challenges related to youth employability and climate change in Africa.

Welcoming the delegation, Covenant University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, expressed confidence in the potential of the collaboration. He highlighted Covenant University's track record in fostering entrepreneurship among its students, leading to recognition as the university with the 'Most Employable Graduates' on numerous occasions.

Professor Adebayo emphasized the pressing issue of youth unemployment in Africa, noting that despite the continent's abundant resources, a significant percentage of graduates remain unemployed. The delegation, comprising Professor Oludayo Olugbara and other representatives from DUT, shared insights on initiatives to tackle climate change and youth unemployment.

Their discussions centered on creating platforms to empower African students and youths to address these challenges effectively and commercialize their ventures. They stressed the importance of students moving beyond the 'blame game' mentality and taking active roles in shaping their environment.

Professor Olugbara proposed practical learning experiences for students, enabling them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. The delegation also expressed interest in collaborating with other disciplines at Covenant University, such as Natural Languages Research with the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

The meeting, attended by key university officials including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, underscores the commitment of both institutions to fostering innovative solutions to pressing societal issues.
