In a significant development for the education sector in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced the extension of the retirement age for teachers. Effective immediately, teachers in the state will now be able to retire at the age of 65, up from the previous age of 60. Additionally, the length of service has been extended from 35 years to 40 years.

This announcement, made by the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Chief Monday Nkwuda, comes as part of the governor's commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Ebonyi State. Governor Nwifuru has consistently emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone of his administration.

The extension applies to teachers who retired in May 2023. Those affected are urged to visit the central payroll at the state Ministry of Finance and Economic Development for recapturing and updating of their records.
