In the face of prevailing economic challenges, civil servants in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, have collectively voiced their demand for a comprehensive review of salaries, urging both federal and state governments to address the financial struggles faced by Nigerians.
Expressing their concerns during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, a cross-section of workers emphasized the need for a salary and allowances overhaul to alleviate the economic hardship gripping the nation.

Kenneth Usulor, a resident of Abakaliki and civil servant, stressed the importance of raising pay and allowances, citing their significance to the overall well-being of the workforce and the nation's development.
"Reviewing salaries and other welfare of the workforce means a lot to them, the system, productivity, and development," stated Usulor.

Judith Eze, another civil servant, highlighted the potential impact of a pay raise on behavioral change and emphasized that empowering the youth would contribute significantly to curbing youth restiveness.
Stanley Uguru, echoing the sentiment, emphasized that youth empowerment would not only reduce social vices but also promote peace and development in the country.
Entrepreneur Denis Eze contributed to the conversation by calling for the revitalization of the commerce and industry sector. He expressed concerns over the closure of businesses and their relocation due to what he termed "outrageous taxations."

"There is a need to urgently address the multiple taxation witnessed in Ebonyi State and other parts of the country," remarked Mr. Eze.
As the call for salary reviews gains momentum, workers and entrepreneurs alike are hopeful that the government will consider these pleas to ease the financial burdens faced by citizens and stimulate economic growth in the region.
