In a show of profound appreciation for 35 years of meritorious and selfless service to the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA members of staff of the Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory ,FUTA gathered to send off one of their own Mr. Abel Ibitoye who retired as a Principal Chief Technologist on July 13, 2023.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the Central Research Laboratory, Professor Folasade Olajuyigbe said throughout the years, Mr. Ibitoye held numerous roles, each one, a testament to his adaptability, and ability to thrive in any challenge that came his way. She said, “Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Ibitoye’s impact in this Centre extends far deeper. His style has been characterized by empathy and genuine concern for the wellbeing and growth of his colleagues and subordinates. He has always taken the time to nurture staff around him, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.”
Commending him the director said “Your wisdom and unwavering support have been a source of inspiration for all staff fortunate enough to work alongside you. Your willingness to listen, your ability to provide guidance, and your genuine care for the personal and professional development of your colleagues are noteworthy. As we stand here today, bidding you farewell, it is worthwhile to reflect on the legacy you are leaving behind. Your true legacy lies in the lives you have touched and the values you have instilled in your colleagues. As you embark on another chapter of your life, we want you to know that the impact you have made will be felt long after your departure”.
On his part, the Former Director, Central Research Laboratory. Professor Sola Agbede described Ibitoye as a selfless public servant very willing to help and contribute to the overall success of any project he embarked upon. He said he made his tenure as director easy and smooth sailing. He said he was a mentor and a bridge builder who would always mediate in any matter that could cause crisis in the Laboratory. Other colleagues also spoke glowingly of his attributes
Mr. Ibitoye began his professional career at the department of Crop Production, University of Ilorin, Kwara State before he transferred his service to the Federal University of Technology, Akure in the year 1988 as a Technologist and got promoted to the position of Principal Chief Technologist in October, 2019. He served in various committees of the Department of Crop, Soil and Pests, Central Research Laboratory, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology and the University.
As part of his service to the nation and his vast understanding of the profession, Science Laboratory Technology, he led the project team of Nigeria Institute of Science Laboratory Technology as Project Leader for the 2009 Visitation\Inspection panel to the institutions and industry laboratories within Ekiti, Ondo and Osun State.
Outside the University, he was elected as a member of the Governing Council of Nigeria Institute of Science Laboratory and Technology, Ibadan and served at the various committee of the institute. Mr. Ibitoye is also an ordained minister at ECWA and had also served as member of Governing Council of ECWA Theological Seminary Oyi River, Kogi State
