Mr. Enoch Ajayi, former Deputy Chief Advancement Officer of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has emphasized the vital role of endowments in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of universities.
He made this known while delivering the 7th Valedictory Lecture of the Association of Nigerian University Administrators (ANUPA), titled “Financial Sustainability in the University Registry: Endowment to Resolve.”

In his lecture, Mr. Ajayi outlined strategies for establishing, managing, and sustaining endowment funds, stressing that they provide a stable financial foundation for university operations. He explained that the principal of an endowment should remain intact, with only the interest utilized to fund key initiatives. He further highlighted restricted endowments dedicated to specific donor purposes, unrestricted endowments that allow broader use by the Registry, and quasi-endowments, which permit expenditure of both principal and income, as viable models.
Mr. Ajayi also stressed the importance of transparency, legal frameworks, and integrity in managing endowments, while urging university administrators to engage alumni and donors. He pointed out that strong alumni relationships and donor confidence are essential for sustaining endowment-driven financial instruments.

Responding, FUTA Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, commended Mr. Ajayi for his insightful lecture, noting that some of the strategies highlighted were already being adopted by the Registry. “Your emphasis on integrity, transparency, and long-term planning resonates deeply with our goals. Though you are retiring, your guidance will continue to influence our work, and your legacy of professionalism, foresight, and commitment to the University will remain with us,” he stated.

ANUPA Chairman, Mr. Mayowa Adu, also praised Mr. Ajayi for his dedication and professionalism, noting his invaluable contributions to FUTA and ANUPA’s growth. He described Ajayi’s legacy as a model for both current and future administrators.
The ceremony featured a symbolic pen-down moment as Mr. Ajayi signed the ANUPA Valedictory Book, followed by the presentation of a certificate granting him lifelong membership of the Association.

Mr. Enoch Ajayi officially retired on August 19, 2025. He joined FUTA on December 3, 2007, as Chief Development Administration Officer and rose to the position of Deputy Chief Advancement Officer. Over his 18 years of service, he was widely regarded for his professionalism, forward-thinking approach, and commitment to advancing financial sustainability in the University.
