Ex-UniOsun VC Urges Researchers to Maintain Integrity in Data and Research Work
Professor Sola Akinrinade, former Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), urged Nigerian university researchers to avoid falsifying research data and emphasized the importance of integrity in research.
Professor Sola Akinrinade, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, has called on researchers in Nigerian universities to avoid falsifying research work through manufactured data and false claims. This admonition was made at the opening ceremony of a two-day Proposal Writing and Grantsmanship Workshop for Early Career Researchers.

The event was organized by UNIOSUN’s Office of Research and Innovations Management in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, the Nigerian Academy of Letters, and TETFUND.
Held at the Multi-purpose Hall of UNIOSUN’s Osogbo campus, the workshop aimed to equip researchers with skills to prepare successful proposals for TETFUND and National Research Fund (NRF) grants. Prof. Akinrinade stressed the importance of genuine research, highlighting the dangers of basing national policies on falsified data. He emphasized the need for quality funding and integrity in research practices.

UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Clement Adebooye, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Research Innovation, and Partnership Prof. Kehinde Adetunji, declared the workshop open. He highlighted the critical role of research in driving national and global progress, and the benefits of investing in research, which include informed policymaking, economic growth, and technological advancements.
The workshop featured esteemed resource persons, including former Landmark University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, University Research Ethics Committee Chairman Prof. Isaac Aiyelagbe, and others. The event was attended by distinguished university scholars and aimed to foster research excellence and capacity building among early career researchers.

Professors Olukoya Ogen from Osun State University and Insa Nolte from the University of Birmingham, conveners of the program, emphasized the importance of being aware of research opportunities and the steps necessary to ensure the success of research proposals.
