Federal University Gashua Gets 2 New DVCs
The Senate of Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, at its 44th Regular Meeting, chaired by the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, has approved the nomination of Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere and Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu as Deputy Vice- Chancellors Academics and Administration, respectively.
A statement by the Registrar of the University, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, says the Senate approved the nomination of the two deputy Vice- Chancellors in line with the provisions of Section 4 of the Universities Act, No. 11 of 1993, adding that the appointment is subject to Council approval and is for a period of two (2) years renewable.
Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere, a reader in the Department of Geography and Director of the Centre for Gum Arabic Research, was overwhelmingly selected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), while Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu, a reader in the Department of English and the Director of Advancement, was selected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
In their acceptance speech, Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu, who spoke on behalf of the appointees, expressed appreciation to the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, and members of the Senate for finding them worthy for the appointment, assuring that they would discharge the responsibilities of their offices with the utmost dedication and commitment to duty.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere, was born on August 15, 1976. He obtained his B.Sc. in Geography from the University of Maiduguri in 1999 and his M.Sc. (Resources and Development) from the same university in 2006, and later bagged a Ph.D. in Geography in 2014 from Bayero University Kano.
Jajere joined the service of the Federal University Gashua on April 25, 2015, as a senior lecturer, rising to the rank of a reader in 2018. He has attended several national and International conferences, both within and outside Nigeria.
Mohammed Attai Yakubu, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), was born on July 22, 1964. He obtained his B.A in English from the prestigious Usman Danfodio University of Sokoto in 1982 and his M.A in Literature in English from the same University in 2001, and later bagged a Ph.D. in Literature in 2014 from Kogi State University, Anyigba.
Attai joined the services of Federal University Gashua in February 2018 in the Department of English as a Senior lecturer, rising to the rank of Reader in 2019.
