The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has officially appointed Prof. Gbenga Ibileye as the institution’s 4th Vice-Chancellor, effective February 15, 2026.

The appointment was approved by the University’s 4th Governing Council, chaired by Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdallah, following a transparent and merit-based selection process. Prof. Ibileye emerged as the top candidate with a total score of 91.9, succeeding Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, whose tenure was noted for consolidating academic culture, expanding programmes, improving infrastructure, and enhancing staff and student welfare.

The selection process involved eleven distinguished professors who were rigorously screened, interviewed, and evaluated in line with federal university guidelines. The Governing Council commended all candidates for their professionalism and dedication.

The Council expressed confidence that Prof. Ibileye will build on existing achievements and lead FUL towards greater academic excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.
