Federal University of Technology, Akure Appoints Professor Oluwaseyi Alabi Awodele as Director of Academic Planning
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has announced the appointment of Professor Oluwaseyi Alabi Awodele as the new Director of Academic Planning.
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has announced the appointment of Professor Oluwaseyi Alabi Awodele as the new Director of Academic Planning. Professor Awodele, who hails from Ogbaagba in Ola Oluwa Local Government Area of Osun State, will assume the role for a two-year term starting August 1, 2024.
Professor Awodele’s educational journey began at Aipate Baptist Day School, Iwo, followed by Baptist High School, Iwo, and Ikonifin Community Grammar School, Ikonifin-Iwo. He earned his National Diploma in Quantity Surveying from The Polytechnic, Ibadan in 1992, and subsequently completed his Bachelor and Master of Technology degrees in Quantity Surveying at FUTA in 1997 and 2003, respectively. He later achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2012.
A distinguished academic, Professor Awodele was recognized early in his career as the Best Graduating Student in the School of Environmental Technology (SET) during the 1996/1997 session. He also received the Departmental Award for the highest CGPA in SET, FUTA, and enjoyed a University Scholarship Award to the Dean’s List from 1992 to 1995. His outstanding achievements continued with a PhD Tuition Waiver from Heriot-Watt University.
Since joining FUTA in 2000 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Quantity Surveying, Professor Awodele has risen through the ranks to become a Professor in October 2019. His previous roles at the university include Acting Head of the Department of Quantity Surveying from August 2014 to July 2017 and Sub Dean of the Master’s Degree Programme in the School of Postgraduate Studies from 2017 to 2019. He has also contributed as Chairman and member of various university committees.
Beyond his contributions to FUTA, Professor Awodele has been active in the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, serving as a National Executive Council member from 2021 to 2023 and as Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter from 2021 to 2023. He has also served as Deputy Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter from 2019 to 2021 and has been involved with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) as a resource person. Additionally, he has acted as an External Examiner and Assessor for postgraduate theses and professorial promotions in various universities.
Professor Awodele is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FNIQS) and a Registered Quantity Surveyor (RQS). He is married and has children.
