The Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy (CRPA) in conjunction with Cruise Point Publishers has awarded Prof. Peter Aka, a former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), for his Exemplary Leadership. The award ceremony took place in Nsukka, honoring Aka's significant contributions and achievements during his tenure.

Prof. Aka, who also serves as a Senior Lecturer and former Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of IMSU by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State from January 2021 to March 2022. During this brief but impactful period, Aka addressed longstanding issues and made several notable advancements within the university.

The CRPA, known for its objective approach to recognizing leadership, evaluated Aka's performance at IMSU before presenting the award. Mr. Daniel Irodinso, representing the CRPA, noted that Aka's leadership resolved medical accreditation issues, established the Pharmacy School—the first of its kind in the southern part of Nigeria—upgraded the university's medical center, and founded the IMSU University Primary School. Irodinso praised Aka for ensuring quality teaching and learning during his tenure.

Aka's achievements have garnered commendations from colleagues and stakeholders in the academic community. Prof. Chukuemeka Nworu, a former Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at UNN, lauded Aka's dedication, highlighting his role in supervising many postgraduates and PhD candidates, many of whom have become professors in various universities.
