The Management of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has approved the provision of subsidized medical tests for members of staff on their birthdays as part of a staff welfare initiative.

The approval was conveyed in a memo issued on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, by the Registrar, Dr. Rebecca A. Okojie, and addressed to the University community. The memo, titled “Subsidized Medical Tests for Staff on Their Birthdays,” was signed by the Deputy Registrar, Office of the Registrar, Mr. M. I. Mudale.

According to the memo, the initiative—tagged “The Birthday Present”—was introduced in response to the increasing prevalence of undiagnosed ailments linked to poor self-care practices among staff.

Under the scheme, every staff member of the University is entitled to access selected medical tests at the University Clinic on their birthday at a highly subsidized cost of Three Thousand Naira (₦3,000) only.

The approved medical tests include kidney function tests, fasting blood sugar test, and an electrocardiogram (ECG).

The University Management stated that the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to staff welfare, preventive healthcare, and the promotion of early detection of health conditions, in line with institutional best practices.
