FULafia and INEC Strengthen Collaboration Ahead of Nasarawa North Senatorial Poll
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Nasarawa State, Malam Muhammad Abubakar-Sadiq, has stated that preparations are in top gear to successfully hold the Nasarawa State North Senatorial election scheduled for June this year.
The senatorial district covers Akwanga, Wamba, and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas.
The commissioner stated the readiness of his office for the election when he was, recently, received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Ilemona Adofu, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Isa Kida.
The commissioner stated that his visit to the University was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two federal institutions ahead of the forthcoming electoral activities.
The commissioner disclosed that the final phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise would conclude at the end of July.
Malam Abubakar-Sadiq explained that having, recently, assumed duty in the state, it was necessary to familiarise himself with key institutions in the state with a view to ensuring successful electoral activities.
He appealed for support from the University, stressing the importance of partnerships with strategic stakeholders in promoting credible and inclusive electoral processes.
According to him, more than 106,000 new voters were registered in Nasarawa State during the recent CVR exercise.
He said that the commission was intensifying its preparations, including the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and enhanced voter data management across the state.
In his response, the vice-chancellor reaffirmed FULafia’s commitment to supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the University as a vital stakeholder in democratic governance.
He assured the commission of the institution’s readiness to collaborate in advancing the values of transparency and electoral integrity.
