Cultivate Excellence as a Habit, AFUED Director Tells Information Staff
The Director of Information and Public Relations, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, Mrs. Olatuyi Oluseto, has urged members of the Directorate to cultivate excellence as a consistent practice in the discharge of their duties.
She made the call on Monday, April 27, 2026, while declaring open an in-house training organized by the Directorate for its staff at the institution.
According to her, “this training is organized purposely for us to equip ourselves with the rudiments of news writing and remind ourselves of ethics at our workplace.”
In her concluding remarks, Mrs. Olatuyi appreciated the resource persons for the well-structured seminar and encouraged staff to imbibe proper conduct and use appropriate official forms of address where applicable within the Directorate.
Also speaking during the training, the Assistant Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, AFUED, Mr. Daramola Abayomi, who delivered a lecture on “Editorial Writing", described news as literature in a hurry that prominence is a vital consideration when selecting a lead in news writing.
Mr. Daramola explained that effective news writing follows the inverted pyramid structure, guided by the “Five Ws and One H” : who, what, when, where, why and how, noting that clarity remains the essence of reporting.

While emphasizing the importance of proper diction in news writing, the facilitator advised the attendees to avoid verbosity while ensuring brevity and precision.
The training was also enriched by a lecture on “Work Ethics” delivered by the Principal Communications Officer, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, AFUED, Mrs. Olagundoye Olusola.
She took participants through self-assessment areas such as integrity and honesty; confidentiality and trust; professional appearance, attitude to work; respect and interpersonal conduct; accountability and responsibility; as well as ethical decision-making.
Saying “Do the right thing at the right time even if no one is watching you. Ethics is concerned with how humans should live.”
The in-house training also featured questions from participants, exchange of ideas, and interactive sessions.
In his vote of thanks, Communications Officer II, Mr. Mayowa Samuel, appreciated the Director for making the training possible, describing it as an avenue for newly recruited officers in the Directorate to learn and improve professionally.

I also appreciate our facilitators for doing explicit justice to the topics on Editorial Writing and Work Ethics : Mr. Daramola Abayomi and Mrs. Olagundoye Olusola. May Almighty God grant you both more wisdom. I equally thank all members of staff in attendance. God will continue to strengthen you all,” he said.
All members of staff of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations were present at the training.
