FULafia Develops Solar-Powered Cooker to Address Environmental Pollution

In an effort to address environmental pollution and rising energy costs, the Centre for Energy Studies (CES) at Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has developed a solar-powered cooking device. The innovative gadget was recently presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, during an official showcase at the university.

Professor Emmanuel Hala Kwon-Ndung, Director of the CES, explained that the solar-powered cooker serves as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional electric, gas, and other environmentally harmful cooking methods. The device is designed to reduce the financial burden of energy costs for households, while also mitigating the environmental impact of traditional cooking fuels.

Speaking during the demonstration, a delighted Vice-Chancellor Abdul Rahman praised the CES for its ingenuity, stating: “This is exactly why we establish centres and directorates within the university—to develop creative solutions that address the issues facing our country.”

He further commended Professor Kwon-Ndung and the Centre for Energy Studies for the groundbreaking innovation. “Centres like CES are not just for teaching; they are meant for training and research, with results that contribute to national development. This is the kind of progress we need,” Abdul Rahman added.
