FULafia Geography Department holds in-house training for Academic Staffs and Technologists

A 2-day in-house training workshop was organised by the Department of Geography, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), for its academic staff and technologists.

The training workshop titled: “Applications of Geographic Information System (GIS) in Geographical Research,” was organised by the Quality Assurance Committee of the department under the chairmanship of Dr. L.E.O. Abejide.

Declaring the event open, the Acting Head of the Geography Department, Dr. Muhammed Kabir Dahiru, said that the training would help the participants discharge their responsibilities effectively. 

Dahiru called on the staff of the department to always avail themselves to such opportunities.

The event which took place Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the GIS Laboratory, had in attendance academic staff and technologists in the department.

Geographical research relies heavily on identifying natural or human problems using scientific methods and techniques in solving those problems from a geographical point of view.

Therefore, GIS is one of the powerful tools or techniques used in solving problems in geographical research. 

In order to solve geographical problems, GIS is being adopted to perform operations such as: Data acquisition, Data processing, manipulation and integration, Spatial analysis and visualization, Dynamic modelling, among others.
