FULafia: Prof. Adofu Advocates for Mentorship in Postgraduate Academic Success
During the inaugural postgraduate academic forum at FULafia, Prof. Ilemona Adofu emphasized the critical role of mentorship in achieving academic excellence.
Professor Ilemona Adofu, the Director of Academic Planning at Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has underscored the significance of effective mentorship for postgraduate students aiming to achieve academic success.
Speaking as the chairman at an interactive forum organized by the Department of Economics for postgraduate students, Adofu highlighted the necessity of guidance in navigating academic pursuits. "If you want to succeed in academics, you must have a mentor," he said, adding, "Nobody will teach you unless you have a mentor."

The event, held at the Social Sciences Lecture Room, Mallam Adamu Adamu Hall, Permanent Site Campus, marked the first departmental postgraduate academic forum of the University. Prof. Adofu, a former head of the Department of Economics, FULafia, commended the department for organizing the event, stating, "You are projecting the name of the department positively."

Dr. Walter O. Ugwuoke, the Head of the Department of Economics, presented a paper titled “Academic Mentorship: A Guide for Academic Excellence” during the event. He defined mentorship as a learning and development partnership between an experienced mentor and a mentee seeking to learn and achieve their goals. Ugwuoke outlined the fundamental qualities of a good mentor, including availability, approachability, flexibility, active listening, objectivity, and straightforwardness.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Adewale Adegoriola, the Chairman of the Departmental Seminar Series Committee, expressed gratitude to the chairman and presenter for their contributions to knowledge. He advised students to seek mentors to guide them toward achieving their goals.
