FULafia Professor Identifies Poor Regulations, Ignorance as Drivers of Antimicrobial Resistance in Nigeria

Professor Surajudeen A. Junaid, a renowned medical microbiologist at Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has attributed Nigeria's growing antimicrobial resistance to inadequate regulations and widespread ignorance.

Speaking at his professorial inaugural lecture, titled "Tales of Man's Travails and Triumphs as the Battle with Viruses Rages On," Junaid emphasized three key factors fueling microbial resurgence:

1. Rapid urbanization and poor sanitation

2. Increased opportunities for pathogen transmission

3. Gene sharing among pathogens

Junaid, Deputy Provost of the College of Medicine and pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Science, stressed the importance of:
