Professor Kehinde Victoria Fatokun, a distinguished scholar in Science Education at the Federal University Lokoja, has urged for a shift towards innovative teaching methods in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Speaking at the university's 18th Inaugural Lecture series titled "Transforming Chemistry Instructional Practices: Navigating Through Resolving Learning Intricacies and Integration of Innovative Pedagogy," Prof. Fatokun emphasized the importance of adopting modern instructional approaches to produce highly skilled and competitive graduates.

She highlighted the need to transition from traditional exam-based learning to outcome-based learning and from certificate-based learning to competence-based learning. Prof. Fatokun stressed the significance of focusing on 21st-century skills and promoting innovative pedagogical practices to enhance students' competitiveness on a global scale.
In her address, Prof. Fatokun urged the management of Federal University Lokoja to organize workshops for teaching staff to acquaint them with modern teaching techniques and learning technologies. She emphasized the importance of assessing teaching excellence as a crucial academic function and advocated for a balanced approach that considers both publications and pedagogical skills in faculty promotion criteria.
Furthermore, Prof. Fatokun encouraged lecturers to cultivate a culture of intensive research and knowledge transfer within their teaching and learning activities. She emphasized the need for individual lecturers to develop self-development plans to address students' learning challenges effectively.
