Habeeb Akinsola, a Biomedical Engineering graduate of the University of Ilorin, emerged as one of 20 winners in the prestigious Project I2M startup pitch competition, showcasing his innovative project, Abiyamọ.

Habeeb Akinsola, an alumnus of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has been recognized as one of the 20 winners of the ₦1.6 million startup pitch competition organized under Project I2M (Innovation to Market).

The initiative, fully funded by the UK's Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) and implemented by the University of Lagos' Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO), aims to bridge the gap between research and market-ready innovations. It supports Nigerian researchers and inventors by providing resources to commercialize their products.

From over 500 applicants, only 52 participants made it to the intensive training phase, including online modules and physical incubation. Habeeb’s final year project, Abiyamọ, which previously won the UNILORIN Hult Prize Oncampus Programme in 2023 and competed globally in Nairobi, stood out as a winning entry.

The competition concluded on November 15, 2024, marking another milestone in Habeeb’s journey as a trailblazer in innovation. His achievement underscores the University of Ilorin's commitment to fostering talent and groundbreaking ideas.
