The College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has strengthened its commitment to responsible scholarship with a Research Ethics Step-Down Workshop aimed at deepening compliance with ethical standards in academic research and publication.

The College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has strengthened its commitment to responsible scholarship with a Research Ethics Step-Down Workshop aimed at deepening compliance with ethical standards in academic research and publication.

The workshop brought together faculty members and researchers to reinforce institutional expectations around integrity, accountability, and regulatory compliance in research processes.

Key presentations were delivered by prominent resource persons, including Prof. Isaiah Adejumobi, representing the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC), alongside Prof. Amidu Mustapha and Prof. Caroline Akinremi.

Speakers emphasized strict adherence to approved ethical guidelines, stressing that credible research output is anchored on “doing things right” from proposal development through to publication. They underscored the importance of aligning all research activities with institutional regulations and global best practices.

The facilitators also drew attention to the consequences of unethical research conduct, including data misrepresentation, plagiarism, and violations of approval protocols, noting that such practices undermine institutional credibility and academic trust.

Participants were urged to translate the knowledge gained into improved research practices and to ensure that ethical compliance is consistently upheld across all academic levels, including undergraduate and postgraduate research.

The workshop further emphasized the need to institutionalize a culture of research integrity, with participants encouraged to cascade the lessons learned to students in order to strengthen long-term academic excellence and responsible scholarship within the university system.
