The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the Nigerian Book Publishers Association (NPBA) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission, has launched a campus bookshop to foster a reading culture, protect intellectual property, and combat piracy. The FUNAAB Bookshop, strategically located beside the Directorate of Public Relations, offers students, staff, and the wider community access to a broad selection of academic texts, research materials, and literary works.
Speaking on the initiative, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman of the Bookshop Board, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for the establishment of the bookshop, calling it a “landmark achievement” aligned with the university’s vision to create a world-class learning environment. He emphasized the bookshop’s vital role in enhancing research and learning, stating, "A university without a bookshop is incomplete."
Plans are underway to expand the bookshop into a fully-fledged resource center, offering affordable stationery and academic materials. Prof. Akinyemi assured that the facility will rival those of leading universities in Nigeria in the near future.
Board member Dr. Tope Olaifa noted the bookshop’s services would extend beyond the university to neighbouring institutions, while manager Mr. Taofeek Bello outlined plans to manage the procurement of books for the FUNAAB International School and Staff School.
The initiative underscores FUNAAB’s commitment to supporting quality education, reinforcing its mission to equip students and faculty for success in a knowledge-driven world.
