The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Blekinge Institute of Technology to strengthen international academic collaboration and expand opportunities in teaching, research, and academic exchange.

The agreement was formalised on March 5, 2026, following a visit by scholars from the Swedish institution to the university. Discussions during the visit focused on developing joint academic programmes and research initiatives that would benefit both institutions.
Speaking during the engagement, the Vice-Chancellor Babatunde Kehinde said the collaboration would create valuable opportunities for staff, students, and academic partners of the university.
He noted that the partnership is expected to improve academic development, strengthen research output, and further position the university within the global academic community.
Earlier, the team lead of the visiting delegation Kayode Adekunle described the partnership as an important step toward deeper international engagement. He explained that the collaboration would also give the Swedish institution stronger exposure to Nigeria’s academic environment and educational system.

As part of the agreement, both institutions plan to develop joint academic programmes at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, particularly in Computer Science and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The programmes will involve shared curriculum development, with about 30 percent local academic content included to reflect the specific needs of each institution.
To drive implementation, deans of relevant colleges at the university will work with heads of departments to provide programme structures and course outlines. Programme managers from both institutions will then review the courses and design collaborative academic frameworks.
Beyond teaching, the partnership will also focus on research cooperation. Academic staff from both institutions are expected to identify areas of shared research interest, pursue joint publications, and apply for research grants to support long-term collaboration.

Officials present at the meeting included the Registrar Titus Adeniyi and the Acting Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships Oluwagbemiga Adeleye, among other university representatives.
