Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken a significant step towards enhancing food security and empowering youth with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASSETRISE Limited. This strategic partnership, in alignment with the university's progressive vision under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, aims to address agricultural challenges while providing gainful employment opportunities for Nigeria's youth population.

The MoU focuses on the annual cultivation of over one million yam tubers across five harvest years, contributing to the Federal Government's efforts to bolster food security nationwide. Additionally, the partnership aims to provide significant capacity building opportunities for staff, students, and neighboring communities.
Beyond agricultural objectives, the collaboration promises extensive benefits, including avenues for capacity building and hands-on experience for students. It also offers opportunities for students to learn about managing agricultural ventures as a business, preparing them for future roles in the agricultural sector.
The signing ceremony, held on May 2, 2024, saw the participation of key stakeholders, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, and representatives from FUNAAB's Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships (DRIP), and Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS). The Group Managing Director (GMD) of ASSETRISE, Mr. Oluwadurotimi Ojamamoye, and Director Engr. Owolabi Akintunde also graced the event.
