Prof. Kehinde made the remarks on January 7, 2026, during a visit by the student-led group, describing their initiatives as “inspiring and impactful” and urging members to leave enduring legacies of creativity, problem-solving, and technological innovation. He cited FUNAAB alumni such as Seun Onigbinde, founder of civic-tech platform BudgIT, as examples of translating academic training into global technology solutions, emphasizing that success in the tech industry can stem from passion, skill acquisition, and collaboration, even outside core technology programs.
Key Highlights from the VC’s Address:
- Assurance of institutional support for the GDG chapter and encouragement to maintain focus despite bureaucratic hurdles.
- Disclosure of plans for an Innovation Hub accommodating over 100 users, along with the availability of campus facilities for student tech activities.
- Announcement of the commissioning of a 240-capacity computer laboratory on January 30, 2026, by stakeholders including Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, as part of the 33rd Convocation Ceremony beginning January 23, 2026.
- Commitment to connecting the group with industry leaders and philanthropists to further support student innovation.

GDG on Campus Achievements and Plans:
- Led by Mr. Ahmad Yusuf, the team highlighted their multiple innovation tracks in frontend, backend, mobile development, AI, Machine Learning, photography, and videography.
- Members have gained hands-on experience, built professional capacity, and had technical papers accepted at international conferences.
- Regular hands-on workshops are held every Wednesday, fostering collaboration and skill development.
- The chapter maintains strong links with state and regional GDG networks for knowledge-sharing and innovation showcases.
- The group announced plans for its first student-led global event, the G-Spark Summit, scheduled for April 5, 2026.
