FUOTUOKE Chemistry Department FUO Receives Commendation From NUC Accreditation Team
The Chemistry Department of Federal University Otuoke had a successful NUC accreditation exercise in consonance with the mandate of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The Chemistry Department of Federal University Otuoke had a successful NUC accreditation exercise in consonance with the mandate of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Myschoolnews report.
During a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor Professor Teddy Charles Adias on arrival on the 24th of October,2023, the Leader of the delegation and Chairman of the NUC accreditation team , Prof. Kabiru Jega of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi , while thanking the Vice Chancellor for a very warm reception accorded them, said the purpose of the NUC visit was to see and appreciate the present situation of the department of Chemistry in the University. He pledged to be objective in their work with sincerity and honesty for the betterment of FUO.
Present to receive them on arrival were the Principal Officers of the University, The Dean of Science, Prof.(Mrs) Iheoma M. Adekunle, The Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Ibebietei Offor, Dr. Akrens Amachree, former DAP, and Dr. Olufunso Abosede , Acting Head of Department of Chemistry.
The Vice Chancellor Professor Teddy Charles Adias in his response, welcomed the accreditation team, noting that this was about the third visit from the NUC in respect of the programme in Chemistry. He explained that since 2015 which was the first visit of the NUC to the department, Chemistry had since gotten full accreditation and so was ready to present the department to the NUC for full validation to complete the 5-year circle.
At the exit and presentation of the accreditation team report on the 25th of October, 2023, the Chairman of the team, informed that the team was satisfied with their findings in the department. He stated that they received maximum co-operation from the staff and students and appreciated them for their gesture.
He confirmed that the curriculum was adequate, admission requirements followed hundred per cent, correct subject combinations and exam marking schemes available and correct. He however sued for improvement in learning materials and more training of the Laboratory Technicians. Other aspects pointed out was the need for office accommodation and the need for upgrade of existing ones. He also stressed the need for internet access and certain instruments to be in place.

Responding, The Vice Chancellor thanked them for their report, noting that training was continuous and was being carried out. Offices were being built for most of the Professors of the department to be completed hopefully by Christmas . On the internet service, the Vice Chancellor informed the team that FUO was one of the beneficiaries of the NCC intervention which came with a full package, so connectivity was in the process.
Other members of the NUC team were Professor Joseph Akan and Mr Rabiu Ibrahim.
