Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has entered into a collaborative partnership with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial skills among its students. This initiative, announced during a visit by UNICEF officials led by Programme Specialist Bharat Kundra, underscores efforts to equip FUOYE students with essential skills for sustainable job opportunities in Africa.

The collaboration will focus on integrating social policies to address environmental challenges and foster entrepreneurial development among students. During the meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, FUOYE’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted the university’s rapid growth and expansion since its establishment in 2011.

Professor Fasina emphasized initiatives such as the Freedom Park, round-the-clock internet facilities, and the creation of a Part-Time programme to enhance revenue generation and student welfare. He also unveiled plans for additional recreational facilities including a football field and lawn tennis courts powered by solar energy, aimed at nurturing talent and fostering innovative thinking among students and staff.

Moreover, the Vice-Chancellor announced the launch of the Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Challenge (VIC) with substantial prizes aimed at encouraging student innovation and entrepreneurship. He expressed optimism about the benefits of collaboration with UNICEF, citing the potential for enriching students’ entrepreneurial skills through practical workshops and internships with corporate partners like Unilever.

The event concluded with presentations of FUOYE Magazines to UNICEF officials and was attended by FUOYE’s top management team including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, and Directors of various departments. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in FUOYE’s commitment to holistic education and student development in Nigeria.
