Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has been selected by the United States Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme (CADFP) to collaborate on a project aimed at co-developing the curriculum for Women and Gender Studies. This partnership, marking a significant educational initiative, will involve African Diaspora scholars from the United States working alongside FUOYE faculty to integrate gender perspectives across academic disciplines.

The project, titled ‘Collaborative Project on Curriculum Co-Development for Women and Gender Studies’, will be led by FUOYE’s Professor of Food Science and Biotechnology, Sylvia Uzochukwu, in conjunction with Professor Chinyere Okafor from Wichita State University, Kansas, USA. It is one of 60 projects under CADFP fostering collaborative research, curriculum enhancement, and mentoring activities between African institutions and scholars from North America.
In a statement, FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, highlighted the university’s selection based on its academic excellence and rapid growth under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina. The initiative aims to enrich FUOYE’s educational offerings by embedding gender perspectives through workshops and curriculum enhancements across various departments.

CADFP, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and managed by the Institute of International Education in collaboration with the Association of African Universities, has awarded nearly 650 fellowships since its inception in 2013. The programme seeks to establish sustainable academic partnerships that benefit both African and North American educational institutions.
FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration during a visit by CADFP officials, affirming the university’s commitment to ensuring the success of the collaborative project. This partnership is expected to advance gender equality initiatives and academic excellence at FUOYE while fostering global academic cooperation.
