Five students from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have brought honor to their institution by clinching the top prize at the Ecobank National School’s Team Chess Championship 2024 held on May 26, 2024, at the Ecobank Pan African Center in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Organized by Ecobank Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigerian Chess Federation (NCF), the championship aimed to promote chess among students from primary to tertiary levels. Running from May 24th to May 28th, 2024, the competition witnessed participation from schools across the country.

Despite the intense competition, FUOYE’s chess team demonstrated exceptional skills, teamwork, and synergy, securing the 6th position among 45 tertiary institutions in Nigeria. As a reward for their outstanding performance, the FUOYE Chess Team received a cash prize of ₦100,000 along with 6 chess boards.
