Olajesu Olanrewaju, an alumnus of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been named a recipient of the 2026–27 Brown Graduate Fellowship at Iowa State University.
The fellowship, valued at $10,000, will support his graduate studies in Materials Science and Engineering.
The Brown Graduate Fellowship Program, established in 2011 and administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research at Iowa State University, is designed to attract and retain top graduate talent. Supported by the Valentine Hammes Family and the Leopold Hammes Brown Family Trust, the program provides institutional funding to accelerate research with tangible real-world impact.

This year, twelve graduate students were selected for the fellowship across disciplines ranging from sustainable materials and climate-smart agriculture to quantum computing, space biology, and wildlife conservation. Olanrewaju’s selection underscores his academic excellence and potential to contribute significantly to materials science research.
Other recipients include: Yao Abusa (Inorganic Chemistry), Abdulrahman Abdulaziz (Mechanical Engineering), Vivek Garg (Chemical Engineering), Alexandra Grajales (Geology), Michael Carroll (Animal Science), and Amlan Datta (Condensed Matter Physics).
The recognition highlights FUTA’s consistent track record in producing graduates capable of competing on global platforms and making meaningful contributions to research and innovation.
