The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) will award 240 first-class degrees out of a total of 2,747 graduating students during its 36th Convocation Ceremony.

This was disclosed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji during a press briefing on Friday, November 7, 2025, ahead of the convocation. Professor Oladiji stated that 1,479 graduates will receive Second Class Upper degrees, 912 Second Class Lower, and 116 Third Class.

The Best Graduating Student, Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, achieved a CGPA of 4.98/5.0 and is set to deliver the valedictory speech on Friday, November 14, 2025.

In addition, 867 graduands will receive higher degrees, comprising 86 Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), 627 Master of Technology (MTech) degrees, and 154 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The Convocation Lecture, titled “Strategies and Tactics for Solving Skills Challenges in Nigeria: The Roles of Government, Institutions and the Youth,” will be delivered by Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, on Friday, November 14, 2025, as part of the first-degree awards program.

Addressing the press, Professor Oladiji, under the theme “FUTA at the Next Level,” highlighted the university’s trajectory over the past three years, emphasizing achievements in academic excellence, financial sustainability, global competitiveness, and inclusive growth. She noted that FUTA has strengthened its global presence through international research collaborations and exchange programs in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, enhancing faculty expertise and promoting cross-border knowledge sharing.

Professor Oladiji also outlined FUTA’s growing international recognition, citing awards, patents, and competitive achievements in research, sports, and innovation. She emphasized the university’s strategic partnerships with industries and research institutions, including Green Energy International Limited and LekOil Joint Venture (JV) under the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), to advance hydrocarbon exploration in the Otakikpo Field, Niger Delta, a five-year project led by FUTA researchers.

She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as the Visitor to the university, for approving a teaching hospital to train medical and allied students, granting ₦1 billion for commercial agricultural farming, and supporting the NELFUND Student Loan Scheme, which aids indigent students. These interventions, she noted, enhance the university’s capacity to train medical professionals and address food security through large-scale agricultural production.

The Vice-Chancellor further recognized the contributions of FUTA staff, students, alumni, and the Governing Council, led by Distinguished Senator Nora Daduut, for fostering a conducive academic environment, cooperation, and peace within the institution.

Concluding, Professor Oladiji affirmed that FUTA has emerged as a leading citadel of academic excellence in Nigeria, emphasizing its role in cutting-edge research, product development, and societal impact, and invited stakeholders to celebrate academic excellence during the 36th Convocation Ceremony.
